The Commune

The Commune is Rotterdam’s international incubator for creative entrepreneurs. Meet our community, attend an event, take a class, or become a member.

In The Netherlands, more than 60% of the creative sector is self-employed, and many struggle to make it past the first few years of activity. At The Commune, we make sure that creative entrepreneurs keep their motivation alive and reach their full potential, by providing shared facilities, knowledge resources and feedback, but also network opportunities.

Created by designers and supported by strong local actors, this incubator empowers (re)starting creative freelancers to develop their projects and studios durably. Thanks to 255m2 of beautiful and functional spaces, tailor-made trainings, mentoring sessions and community events accessible to all budgets and profiles, The Commune builds a healthy and strong creative community in Rotterdam.

Trainings

Most creatives lack entrepreneurial reflexes and slowly “learn by doing” at the expense of their motivation. At The Commune, we teach the knowledge creative freelancers need, over 8 short and inspiring classes.

The classes helped me to plan the development of my design studio for the long term. Now I know where to invest my efforts and what are the best growth strategies for my work. Finally I feel ready to start my own entrepreneurial venture!
— Gabriel Fontana

MENTORING

Creatives continuously feed from outside input, but being a freelancer doesn’t always allow an easy access to qualified feedback. The Commune’s mentoring sessions provide positive criticism, tips and support.
